Bert van den Heever obtained a BSc.QS degree from the University of Natal in 1976 and spent six years with the Kwa-Zulu Finance Company, first as administrative manager of their building division, then as technical advisor to the Projects- and New Business Venture departments prior to his move to the Vaal Triangle. In 1981 he became a partner in the firm of Buys, Endemann, van den Heever Quantity Surveyors. During 1983 he obtained an M.B.L. degree from Unisa specialising in project management and negotiation. During 1985 he bought out his Durban based partners and the name of the firm was changed to Bert van den Heever Partnership.
He was a founder member of both the Regional development Association and Vaalgro, a section 21 company, formed to promote economic development in the Vaal.
